    Congratulations Global Citizens of 2008

Since 1991 the Global Citizens Awards have been an opportunity for our members and community to recognize those among us who have provided leadership and inspiration. SCIC is pleased to announce that the 2008 Saskatchewan Global Citizens Awards will go to the following individuals:

    Priscilla Settee

An educator, intellectual, activist and writer, Priscilla has been a trailblazer in developing global solidarity within and between aboriginal communities and non aboriginal communities. Priscilla’ssolidarity work has spanned continents from Africa to Latin America to the South Pacific, and she has also worked at home in Saskatchewan confronting systemic racism and building bridges of solidarity.

    South Saskatchewan

    Saskatchewan Friends of Burma

The rest of the world took notice of Burma when 10,000 Buddhist monks marched to protest human rights abuses in 2007. But a small group of people in Saskatchewan have been watching and supporting the quiet struggle of the people of Burma for years. The days of Canadian support for the brutal military leaders of Burma are waning, while the days of support for democracy are dawning—and Saskatchewan Friends of Burma has played, and continues to play, a vital role in making this shift possible.

My Teacher is a Global Citizen

    Sheelah McLean

According to the Active Global Citizenship 30 class at Bedford Road Collegiate, Sheelah McLean is a motivating and inclusive teacher and role model for all who have the privilege of her company and mentorship. She is a pioneer in her field, going where no educator has ever gone before by creating, from the ground up, a 30 level accredited high school course called Applied Global Citizenship 30.
