Re:resource royalties in Saskatchewan - 2009/10/24 22:11 Those are interesting comments. Sask is very competative with BC and AB. Companies are paying high taxes in Sask. The seamingly low oil and gas royalty rates are a reflection of the high expense to extract the oil. The Bakken play is not as conventional of a play as would seem from a position without risk. Would you agree that the economic stability in Sask is due in great part to the oil and gas royalties put in place by the NDP, probably the most intuitive economic manuever implimented by the NDP. I would suggest lower royalties for Sask based oil companies. The economic spin off from a bbl of crude produced by a Sask based company greatly exceedes the result of a bbl of crude produced by a company from outside of Sask. Any other thoughts on how to get more economic benefit for our oil?
