The town of Craik is hosting a festival August 19 and 20 that will combine some of Saskatchewan's best musicians with knowledge from renewable energy professionals, organic farmers and others involved in developing the province's green potential. Def3, Mobadass and DJ Jeff Galaxy are among the performers who will set the groove at Field Festival '06.

"Field '06 is a family-friendly event with something for everyone," says event chair Jason Freeman. "There is nothing quite like it and it's not to be missed."  Click on 'read more' to learn more.

    The field awaits happy campers.

The town of Craik is halfway between Regina and Saskatoon on Highway #1. It features a chemical-free industrial hemp field, which is cultivated specifically for this event. "We're looking forward to returning to Craik because of its great people and their commitment to a sustainable and green  future," says Freeman.

Craik is a progresive prairie community that has drawn national attention for its vision of a growing rural future and its innovative ecological showcase, the Craik Eco-Centre.

The festival's theme is "music/knowledge". Event organizer Ryan Graham says, "Its goal this year is to attract people who might not normally consider visiting an outdoor festival, but would like to know more about what innovative people are doing in the province and would also like to hear some great music."

Band scheduled to appear are Mobadass, Ira Lee, Paul Kubik, Lazerblade, Def3, The Nancy Ray-Guns, Pandora, Ben Winoski, Yossarian, Birds are Dinosaurs, Joelle Fuller Band and Noice. There will also be DJ performances by Jeff Galaxy, Dr J, Mikhail and Kinder.

Full camping amenities are provided. Certified organic bison and vegetarian food will be available, as well as a licensed beer garden. There is also a family area with children's performances and activities.

After its approval in 1998, industrial hemp cultivation has become a major asset to Saskatchewan, according to a Field Festival news release. In 2005, over 80 farms grew close to 8,000 acres of hemp in the province.
