For all of those who signed the open 'Code Blue for Childcare' letter, here's an update. On July 27 childcare activists gathered outside the provincial premier's meeting in St. John's, Nfld. and unfurled the letter, signed by 50,000 Canadians. The letter calls on federal and provincial leaders to honour the promise of a national childcare program. The premiers were invited to the letter unveiling, but none attended. Three moms, with their babies, attempted to hand-deliver the letter but were turned back by the RCMP. However, the chief of security promised it would be delivered.
The letter was 25 metres long. Photo by John Mclellan.
