Fiacco family lands affected by southwest development PDF Print E-mail
Written by T. Ellliott and D. Mitchell, Regina Media Collective
    Tuesday, 12 September 2006
A new housing and retail area planned for Regina’s southwest, west of the Lewvan Expressway and south of the airport, will encompass land owned by members of the Fiacco family. Land titles documents show 34 lots in undeveloped Devonia Park are registered to Mike, Marie, Tony and Pasquale Fiacco.

The land is currently vacant, but sits within the area slated for a new suburb that will be ringed by retail outlets and industries serving the airport. Mayor Fiacco has already stated he has a conflict of interest regarding the proposed development, however details of the conflict have not been public.

The Fiacco family members are not the only lot owners affected by the southwest proposal. Dundee Developments, Builders Development, Beaucorp Ventures Ltd., 602946 Saskatchewan Ltd., and numerous individuals have title to large pieces of land in the development area, and there are several small and large landholders within the Devonia Park portion. Act Up will continue to follow this story provide more information throughout the week.

It is good to have this information available to voters in Regina.
It is not something that people here give a lot of thought but it is the reality.
When these developers come before City Council, they have had considerable consultation and discussion with councillors and city administrators. Even though a member of City Council can absent himself from debate and votes on issues where he has an interest, that does not limit his influence on those who remain in the room to debate and vote.
We need to be aware of who profits from the decisions of Council and use that information when we make our decisions at the polls.

Hey folks, when you're talking about this don't forget that this is the same guy who wanted to close libraries, an art gallery, and the Prairie History Room...

I got no proof myself but I heard from a few people that the fiaccos have owned that land for a long time, long before Pat Fiacco became mayor.
    librairies

Never fails that the left side always complains about how bad it is in this city, but arent prepared to offer any real solutions. There was valid reasons for the closure of some librairies - they are not a drop in centre, nor a warm up shack in the winter - who is using these facilities? - you dont see standing room only at them, just a bunch of university students and some indigents - not a taxpayer in the lot. Its time to see our tax dollars spent sensibly and an outdated concept like these facilities are a waste of my tax dollars.

Everyone who signed the petition to keep the libraries open should have been invoiced, maybe they would reconsider if the money came out of their pockets. It is very easy to want everything but you better figure out how to fund it. Oh I know raise taxes thats orginal.
