    Practicing Utopia PDF Print E-mail
    Written by Mark Wihak

Are you interested in the best possible Regina? I am seeking collaborators for a project called Practicing Utopia that will be presented through the Dunlop Art Gallery. I am Mark Wihak. I grew up in Regina, and returned home in 2003 after a decade away. I live in the Core community near the General Hospital. I’m a filmmaker and I teach filmmaking at the University of Regina.

Practicing Utopia will consist of a small group of Reginians having conversations about making their city a better place in which to live. The conversations will take place in March and April and a final conversation will be presented on April 30th as part of Here and Elsewhere: Contemporary Practice and Contexts Lecture Series at the Dunlop Art Gallery.

I am looking for people who are interested in dreaming big about making their city better. What do you think Regina needs? More transit? Better roads? Lower (or Higher) taxes? Parks and pools? Housing? More jobs? Safer streets? Opportunities for youth? Schools? Culture? Recreation? Recycling? Economic growth? A sustainablecommunity? More bike lanes? More parking? Street-life? Higher density? New subdivisions? A “Milky Way” on every block?

I am looking for people who are: Ages 18 and above > From all parts of the city > Long time residents and new comers > Canadian born and new Canadians.

The time commitment for Practicing Utopia will be approximately 12 hours between March 24 and April 30. If this sounds interesting to you or for someone you might know please contact me and I can tell you more:
