According to draft budgets released this morning, civic expenditures will rise 4.7 per cent this year, with an emphasis on maintaing the roads, increasing the police rolls, and investing $2.7 million in capital projects. Capital projects include the start of a multi-year industrial land development project, and new turf at Taylor field. The City is proposing a 3.9 per cent mill rate increase. Public debate will begin with a finance committee meeting next Tuesday at 2:00 pm, and will continue until a final draft is presented to council April 17.

Written by hugo chavez on 2007-03-30 18:46:46 Didn't Fiacco say that Jim Holmes was backwards and old fashioned with his idea that raising taxes would be necessary ? Didn't he campaign on no tax increase and shamed those he told the truth ? What do Regina's voters feel about being lied too ? | Written by frank furter on 2007-04-08 21:49:49 Let's start a count on the half-truths: 1. That he had no vote on the southwest development proposal (no vote was taken for him to abstain from - just a lot of backroom stuff, which he did not abstain from). 2. That there have been no cuts to inner city funding (at least not until the 2007 budget gets passed). 3. That he single-handedly brought the Rolling Stones to Regina (some fool let him announce it, the Leader Post created the rest of the myth). 4. That Jim Holmes would raise taxes, so you'd better vote for Pat instead (who will raise taxes, too). Anyone else got something for the list? |
