Educators, environmentalists and others exchanged ideas at a sustainability cafe on Friday, April 20. The cafe, held at Regina's Luther High, was part of a symposium organized by the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation. In a unique discussion format participants from across Saskatchewan wandered from table to table to discuss key questions like: "How can educators and community groups work together to engage families?" It didn't take long for people with diverse skill sets - for example a grade school teacher and a filmmaker - to find each other and start generating ideas. Cafe-goers young and old plan a better planet. T. Elliott photo.
The symposium opened Thursday evening with a keynote address by Dr. William Reese, who helped develop the now famous ‘ecological foot print’ tool for measuring the environmental impact of everything from individual households to countries. Speaking at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, Reese noted that just 20 per cent of the world’s population does most of the environmental damage. Only registered users can write comments.
