    News - Announcements
    Written by dave mitchell
    Tuesday, 19 April 2005

We are very pleased to announce the launch of Saskatchewan's Online Activist Network - a resource for people and groups involved in struggles for social and environmental justice.

We hope this website will act as a hub for discussion, information-sharing, and event-planning in our communities, and encourage you to get involved by posting articles and events, participating in discussions, and making the website a valuable part of the communications strategy of the activist groups you're involved with.

We encourage you to create an account and begin exploring the website. Or, for a brief overview of the site's main features, keep reading...

If you have suggestions for how to improve the website and make it more useful and user-friendly, please post your comments to our "feedback" forum.

    Events Calendar
Read about and post events to the website. We are hoping that people throughout Saskatchewan will use this feature to connect to events going on in their communities. There will soon be an email list that you can sign up to which will have event listings compiled and sent out on a weekly basis (likely Sunday nights, so if you have events that you would like included in this mail-out, please make sure that they are posted before Sunday for the following week).

News and Article Postings and Archives
Post important stories and articles to the website by clicking on the "Submit" link under "Account" at the top of the page. The stories and articles are searchable by topic (see the "Content" link at the top of the page) or through the site's search engine. If you want to comment on a specific article, click on "write comment" at the bottom of that article.

    Forums
Discuss burning issues, pose questions, or share your views on important subjects. Forums are organized by topic, with a handful of headings to begin with. These will be expanded or contracted based on use and demand. If you see a topic area that is missing in the Forum section, it can be added by contacting the website administrators.

    Journals
This is the space for blogging. If you feel like writing/editorializing/ranting on your choice of topics this is an excellent place to go.

    Community Directory
Coming soon: a directory of groups, organizations, and resources by topic. We encourage all organizations to take full advantage of this section to post the details of what your organization does, who it serves, and how people can get involved.

    Links
This is a more general directory section which will point to other relevant websites on the internet.

    Photos
Do you have some good photos of a rally, event or something related to the site? Well, here is the section to post those photos.

    Downloads (Audio and Video)
Coming soon. This will be a section where video and audio recordings will be posted so that folks can access them. This will also be a place where posters for events can be posted for download. Stay tuned for more details on this section.

    News Feed
At the bottom of the main page is a newswire from www.indymedia.org showing the most recent news postings to that site. We may also add other good alternative news websites to this feed.

    Shoutbox
A real-time chat room for communicating with other users.

The more people actively using this site, the better, so please help us spread the word! And a big 'thank you' to Ryan Smith from www.diyhosting.ca for designing, hosting, and maintaining this website.
