Peace Activists Detained by Israeli Secret Service PDF Print E-mail
    Contributed by Jim Elliott
    Friday, 12 October 2007
Earlier today, the Colombia Support Network (CSN), based out of Madison, Wisconsin, has received word from the Peace Community of San Jose de Apartado of Columbia that two of their members, ARLEY TUBERQUIA and MARTHA BASQUEZ, were detained by the Israeli secret service in the Tel Aviv airport. They had arrived to participate in the Grace Peace Pilgrimage from Eilat, over Bethlehem to Jerusalem.
These members of the Peace Community, itself a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, apparently are being treated by the Israelis as terror suspects. They are, of course, not terrorists and are totally committed to peace and reject arms.
People are being urged to write Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olme and state that these peace community members are not terrorists and that they should be released immediately.  The Peace Community is also encouraging letters to go to US Secretary of State Condeleezza Rice urging her status with the Israelis to intervene for the same quick release of these Columbian supporters of peace.
