Canadian Health Network Slated for Closure March 2008 PDF Print E-mail
    Contributed by Jim Elliott
    Saturday, 15 December 2007
"The Canadian Health Network, Canada’s leading web-based source for health information, is slated for closure on March 31, 2008", said the Ontario Registered Nurses Association.  "As a national, bilingual, non-commercial, and quality-assessed web portal for health information, the Canadian Health Network has been providing a significant service for Canadians since 1999."
From the CHN website, www.canadian-health-network.ca, The Canadian Health Network 's goal is "to help Canadians find the information they're looking for on how to stay healthy and prevent disease. The CHN does this through a unique collaboration - one of the most dynamic and comprehensive networks in the world. This network of health information providers includes the Public Health Agency of Canada, Health Canada and national and provincial/territorial non-profit organizations, as well as universities, hospitals, libraries and community organizations."

The Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario and Community Health Nurses’ Initiatives Group have sent an open letter to Federal Minister of Health Tony Clement urging him to save the Canadian Health Network. You can view their 2-page letter by going to
    http://www.rnao.org/Storage/34/2859_Open_Letter_to_Clement_re_CHN.pdf.

In their call for action, the Nurses are asking Canadians to sign a petition that states that we support the Canadian Health Network and that we want the funding restored immediately and extended past March 31, 2008.  They see this network as a very valuable Canadian health information resource that is the best of its kind in the world.  The petition can be found at
     http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/saveCHN.

They would wish, if possible, that you send a letter to Minister Clement and your MP.  Their addresses can be found at http://www.gc.ca/directories/direct_e.html#mp.
