In an effort to raise awareness about the state of the arts and the upcoming election, some of us in Regina are putting out the following request
to individuals and organizations who have performances or
arts events coming up in the next month.
If you feel it is
within your abilility to say the following:
"Please
think about the arts when you vote."
in a pre-show
chat, in a program, in a poster, or in a conversation with your
audience, please do. It is a small gesture that could have an
echo effect in a small centre like Regina.
If you would like
to be further involved, an arts manifestation is being held October
6th at 12 noon on Scarth Street in Regina's Downtown. This
collection of actions will gather people who share a common concern
for the state of art in Canada, it will articulate challenges we face
in the current political climate, and will respond to these
challenges using the artistic language of performance.
We are looking to gather a significant number of people to
participate in and to attend this event in solidarity for the cause.
Attending an artistic event in our current social climate is a
political gesture - get the word out there!
Regards and merde for upcoming performances,
Elect Art!
ps. We have attached some flyers that you may find useful - we've
already had really positive reactions while handing them out. The
questions are inspired by queries offered by the "Business for
the Arts" organization:
- Does your party invest in the
future of Canadian arts and culture? - How will your vote
stimulate and sustain the creative and artistic economy in your
riding and the rest of Canada? - Vote for a representative who
will lead the development of domestic and international markets for
Canadian artists, creators, cultural industries and institutions, as
she or he will for other sectors.
