Saskatoon group launches election web resource PDF Print E-mail

“Not My Prime Minister” is a non-partisan group of people who have come together to raise awareness about the policies of Stephen Harper’s Conservatives during the 2008 Federal Election and beyond. The group’s main focus is to highlight the policies of the Harper administration, carried out with a minority government, which we believe have been destructive to communities across Canada and the environment we live in. We are providing education and tools to defeat Stephen Harper and we hope
you will pick up these tools and use them.  The tools are  posters and
pamphlets that we hope you will distribute in your community.  If you live
in Saskatoon, you can pick up these posters and flyers to distribute at
Turning the Tide Bookstore.  If you live in another community, you can
access materials to download and print from our website at
http://www.notmyprimeminister.ca/downloads/.  Keep checking back as we will
be regularly posting new materials on different issues over the next 2
weeks.

We are also hoping to influence people to get out to the polls and defeat
Stephen Harper.  This can only be done by strategic voting - in other words,
voting for the candidate who has the best chance of defeating the
Conservative in your riding if the race is close.  This doesn't necessarily
mean having to hold your nose and vote for someone you don't agree with.
Websites such as www.votepair.ca have come up with tools which enable you to
trade votes with people in key ridings across the country.

If you are in a riding where the NDP could win and you are a Liberal, you will be paired up
with an NDP supporter in a riding where a Liberal could win.  By trading
votes, you ensure that your vote gets counted where it has the most impact.
If you live in a riding where anyone beating the Conservative is a long
shot, vote with your conscience or consider helping out the little guys by
casting a vote for the Greens. You can find more information on this topic
on our website at http://www.notmyprimeminister.ca/action/

Finally, we want you to participate in this project.  The website is
incomplete as it has been designed and the content written by volunteers.
If you would like to contribute a piece on any topic that we have missed
[right now the big ones are Aboriginal rights, cuts to the arts, poverty (in
Canada and globally), environment in general (we have climate change
covered)], we would be very happy to post it on the website.  Write ups are
best in point form and can be summarized from any one of a number of
resources online (check out the CCPA's online book of short articles called
The Harper Record for a great resource -
http://www.policyalternatives.ca/Reports/2008/09/HarperRecord/index.cfm?pa=B
B736455
).

We also welcome you to make your own posters and educational materials on
issues that are important to your communities so please feel free to use the
resources provided on this website in your own work.  They are certainly not
copyrighted except where noted.

If you think this is an important project and have more money than time to
help, we ask that you support the campaign by making a donation online here
- http://www.notmyprimeminister.ca/donate/

This election is a very important one and we hope that you will agree to
take action.  And please spread the word by passing this email along.

In solidarity,

www.notmyprimeminister.ca
