Stating “This is not a Conservative Party,” a group calling itself the Department of Culture – Palliser Division will hold a gathering at Regina’s Cathedral Village Freehouse on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The group is working to mobilize voters, artists, activists and citizens in the Palliser riding, which includes Moose Jaw, south-west Regina and surrounding rural areas.

"This event will be free and fun – a chance to connect with others who share a vision of a Canada where good policy and funding for arts, healthcare, sports, education, agriculture, the environment, and immigration are all seen as essential to a healthy society,” said Michelle Sereda, the “Palliser Division Deputy Minister of Culture,” in an email announcement. The local group is joining a national Department of Culture campaign, formed in response to cuts to 16 federal arts programs, and comments by Prime Minister Stephen Harper indicating that artists are a wealthy elite.

The non-Conservative party begins at 8 p.m. For information or to get involved, contact Michele Sereda, Palliser Division’s Deputy Minister of Culture, via email: .
