Art is in danger within Canada's current political climate. This country's leadership has forgotten the role of art and culture within our society. We would like to remind anyone who will listen of what that role is.

You are invited to attend an arts manifestation Monday October 6th at noon on Scarth Street, Regina. This gathering will strive to put the arts, it's role within our society, and the upcoming election on the minds of our fellow city dwellers. Artists and individuals with an interest in the arts are invited to join us in three actions.

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." - Oscar Wilde

Our country needs creative resources. Join us as we participate in the world's oldest artistic tradition: daydreaming. Stop your day, lay flat on your back, and stare up at the sky with us. We are in the industry of imagination.

All things Art. (I give, not I want.)

Art enriches our lives. It is the galleries, the performances, and the festivals within our city. It is also the architecture, the individuals, the ideas of our city. For one day, all people, places, and things affected by art in Regina's Downtown will be tagged, with ribbons, as the Art that they, indeed, are.

"Art leaves bare the questions riddled by answers."

One of the roles of art within a society is to ask questions. These questions, which need to be asked of our leaders, our teachers, our peers, our selves, lead both a country and its individuals towards self- awareness. Join us for an open mic as we ask questions about art and the election.

"If it is prime ministers who change the world, it's the artist who will show this to the world."
Wajdi Mouawad, Open letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper

Finally, if we are to have the voice of arts heard in government, it is from within a system of voting that requires knowledge in order to feel empowered. Informing one another about the electoral system in Canada, with all its benefits and faults laid bare, will allow people to make informed choices when they cast their ballot. On Scarth street, we will use colourful sidewalk chalk to mark out information on how to make your vote count. If you have information to share about how to vote, come grab some chalk!

Please think about the arts when you vote on October 14th.
