For over a year, there has been concerted efforts to get the lead out of lipstick.  Unfotunately the U.S. FDA still has done nothing to support not having lead put on your face every day.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has told the public that popular brands of lipstick still contain lead.  The FDA said it would conduct an independent investigation. Despite repeated calls from the Campaign and many of their allies and supporters, as well as pressure from U.S. Senators, the FDA still has not released any data on its own lipstick tests or taken any action to protect people from dangerous ingredients in cosmetic products.

The report, "A Poison Kiss: The Problem of Lead in Lipstick", was covered by many news medias across the U.S.  Many people sent in letters telling their government that they did not want potential neurotoxins like lead in their lipstick or any other consumer product.

The European Union and Canada actually regulate cosmetics.  And large cosmetic companies are now selling safer products in other countires but because they are not mandated to remove lead and other harmful substances from their U.S. products, they do not.

More extensive testing has been done in October 2007.  The results of that testing can be found on the website, www.safecosmetics.org.  They also identify the ones with the highest levels of lead like L'Oreal and give suggestions about finding safer cosmetics.
