OCATS is asking women to send us Teal Panties
The new and exciting symbol for ovarian cancer awareness. “We are asking the women to join us, have some fun, host pantie decorating parties; creating an opportunity for dialogue and to raise awareness”, stated Darlene Gray, the President of OCATS. “Then participate in our awareness campaign by sending these Teal Panties to our group”, Darlene requested.

We urge all women to please participate in our awareness campaign. The urgency and importance of acknowledging this high fatality-rate women’s cancer cannot be understated. Doctors have long professed the importance of the early detection of ovarian cancer knowing that even today there is no early detection test or screening. The Teal Panties will be the new mandate for ovarian cancer awareness for both the public and health care professionals to ask those signs and symptoms questions.

Women with ovarian cancer diagnosed at Stage 1 have survival rates at approximately 80%. However, approximately 75% of ovarian cancers are diagnosed in advanced stages where survival is poor. We can improve on early diagnosis rates.  How? Until there is an early detection test for ovarian cancer, signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer must be acknowledged and accepted as part of all women’s health care programs. Establishing Gynecologic Oncology units/programs in Saskatchewan can bring about these changes.

The blight of the ovarian cancer issue has been concealed for too long. Women need to discuss illness and pain in the abdomen and pelvic area openly, comfortably and carefully so that efforts can be made to detect and successfully treat ovarian cancer, early, rather than simply accepting high mortality rates because there are no screening tools. Awareness and attention to details are our only tools to work with today.

Dr. Lizbeth Brydon, a practicing Gynecologic Oncologist in southern Saskatchewan supports this initiative and said, “The gynecology oncologists in the province are delighted with the tremendous effort of the public interest groups in improving awareness about ovarian cancer, and other gynecological cancers. We hope this effort increases public awareness and hope to see lots of blue bloomers and peacock panties for OCATS.“

Information will be available on our Facebook Page, or contact Darlene Gray at 775-1848 or

HOST YOUR OWN TEAL PANTIE PARTY TODAY!  Just invite your friends, serve refreshments, ask each guest to bring a Teal Pantie donation, register with OCATS and we'll supply a guest speaker to talk about ovarian cancer symptoms and what we CAN do in Sask to improve survival outcomes by diagnosing earlier.  Decorate your own panties, having a sewing party, whatever is fun for your group.  Contact OCATS below:
