Nov. 27 was Buy Nothing Day, but why stop there? Things to do today instead of shopping: Take a walk in the new snow; watch the football game but don't watch the ads; knit a touque; make a nice meal out of whatever you already have in your cupboards; take your newspapers to the blue bin; borrow a book or movie from the library; play your guitar (it looks dusty!).

I planned to go Christmas shopping today, but now I'm gonna buy me some peace of mind and make some donations instead.

The current economic system requires compulsory consumption to create jobs. When people don't consume the results are lay-offs. A Guaranteed Livable Income is the easiest way out of the forced consumption trap.

Without an alternative-to-jobs income, we are trading our human, social and environmental health for jobs.
