A workshop exploring theatre for community engagement will be held June 10 in Regina. If you would like to explore issues of power and the "isms" (racism, linguicism,
sexism...) through the lens of the theatre of the oppressed, rejuvenate your
active spirit, and develop/strengthen community alliances, then this is the
workshop for you. This workshop was created for community organizers,
facilitators, activists, and educators as well as individuals who are seeking to
become engaged and active within the community. You do not need to have previous
experience with community development or organizing in order to participate. The
workshop will be led by Dr. Warren Linds, a former Regina resident who now teaches at Montreal's Concordia University.
Facilitator's bio: Warren Linds is originally from
Regina, but now works at Concordia University in Montreal. He has over 20 years
experience facilitating popular theatre for social change. He is currently
working with Aboriginal youth in the Qu'Appelle Valley leading theatre workshops
in health, community development, and leadership. He has written extensively on
youth leadership, anti-racism, and theatre as a community development
methodology.
The Community Solidarity Workshop has been designed to be experiential
(hands-on) and inclusive. Participants may choose to attend the full day for
$50.00 (including lunch) or choose to attend either the morning or afternoon
sessions for $30.00 each (including lunch). I will definitely give consideration
to persons who are experiencing poverty with an opportunity to volunteer and/or
pay a reduced rate. Please inquire. Participants must register by June 1st.
Please advise of any special dietary or other needs when you
register.
