Kevin Neish, an eyewitness to
the assault on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla by Israeli troops in May will speak and share his video in Regina on Nov. 8. A
resident of Victoria, B.C., Neish was one of three Canadians among the 700
international activists who took part in the flotilla of ships delivering aid to
Palestine. The Gaza Freedom Flotilla was organized in an attempt to break
Israel's illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has been described by the Red
Cross as "collective punishment" and a crime under international law.
Neish was on board the largest ship, the Mavi Marmara, when Israeli military
forces stormed the boats in international waters on May 31, 2010. Nine People
were killed, dozens injured, and all remaining passengers were seized, jailed
and deported. A long-time activist for justice and human rights, Neish will be
speaking about his experiences aboard the flotilla and showing video footage of
the Israeli raid, as well as discussing ongoing attempts to break the siege of
Gaza.
